PP Plastic Hair & Lint Strainers: Pros, Cons & Applications
When choosing a hair strainer, many buyers assume stainless steel is stronger. In fact, for most standard pool and water feature applications, fiberglass-reinforced PP plastic strainers offer better corrosion resistance, lighter weight and lower cost than stainless steel, with excellent value.
Key Advantages of Plastic Hair Strainers
Our plastic hair strainers are injection-molded from fiber-reinforced polypropylene, with these benefits:
✅ No rust, excellent corrosion resistance
Plastic will never rust, and resists pool chemicals, seawater and acid/alkaline corrosion. It works perfectly in standard pools, saltwater pools, hot springs and aquaculture, with no need to pay extra for 316 stainless steel.
✅ Ultra-lightweight for easy installation
The full range weighs only 3.8–9kg; even the largest DN150 model can be carried and installed by one person with no lifting equipment, and basket removal for cleaning is effortless. Equivalent stainless steel strainers are several times heavier.
✅ Low cost, high value
Plastic strainers cost around 1/3 the price of stainless steel units, with more than enough durability for standard applications, significantly reducing project costs.
✅ Clear lid & screw cap for easy maintenance
The transparent lid lets you check debris level without opening the strainer; the screw-on cap opens with no bolts, so the basket can be removed and rinsed in seconds.
✅ Full standard range in stock
Four standard models cover DN65 to DN150 connections and 45–150m³/h flow, suitable for nearly all pool, SPA and water feature projects. Standard sizes are in stock for fast shipping with no custom lead time.
✅ Built-in bottom drain
A bottom drain port allows easy flushing of sediment without moving the unit.
Standard Model Specifications
All models rated for 0.4MPa working pressure, fiber-reinforced PP material:
HC-A10: DN65 inlet/outlet, 45m³/h flow, 3.8kg
HC-B20: DN80 inlet / DN65 outlet, 50m³/h flow, 5kg
HC-B40: DN125 inlet / DN100 outlet, 100m³/h flow, 7.6kg
HC-B60: DN150 inlet / DN125 outlet, 150m³/h flow, 9kg
Plastic vs Stainless Steel: Which to Choose?
Choose plastic for: residential pools, hotel pools, water parks, SPAs, hot springs, aquaculture and fountains – any standard application with standard connections and pressure below 0.4MPa. Plastic offers better corrosion resistance, lighter weight and lower cost.
Choose stainless steel for: non-standard custom sizes, high temperature/pressure, or special industrial applications, where 304/316 stainless steel supports customization and higher pressure.
Installation & Maintenance Tips
Install on the suction side before the pump, mounted horizontally, following the flow direction arrow;
Check debris through the clear lid, and rinse the basket when it is 1/3 full;
Inspect the lid O-ring regularly and replace if worn;
Drain all water from the strainer during winter shutdown to prevent freeze damage.
